The Christmas bird counts is an annual tradition that began over a century ago. Each year the Christmas Bird Count season falls between the 14th December and 5 January. During the season a number of dedicated volunteers count the number of birds in their allotted region. The census depends completely upon you and your vigilance. Anyone can take part in the bird count. The count takes place within "Count Circles," which focus on specific geographical areas. Each circle is led by a Count Compiler. Therefore, if you are a beginning birder, you will be able to join a group that includes at least one experienced birdwatcher.
